Irrigation Systems
Once
sprinkler systems were viewed as a luxury item. Now they are considered
a necessity by most property owners. A properly designed, installed and
maintained water management, distribution, and moisture control program
is a critical support system and insurance plan. It protects and enhances
your landscape investment. Its key function is to maximize plant health
and growth while efficiently conserving water. In order to flourish, your
plant material -- whether it be trees, perennials or turf --definitely
depends on intelligent use of water.
It is prudent to have a master plan to consider all elements of the design,
installation and maintenance phases for two property improvements. Irrigation
and Landscape Planting/Hardscape projects should be integrated and not
treated as two completely separate entities. Whenever possible, both projects
should be analyzed simultaneously and tailored to the specific soil/site
characteristics, and the projected moisture needs of your property.
Plant material specifications and the irrigation
component specifications and configuration are largely determined by the
interaction of the following unique property characteristics:
- Soil hydraulics, soil type and texture: compacted
clay vs. sandy soil
- Microclimate and drainage; for example, contours
& slope of terrain, wind and sun radiation.
- Location of structures, utility & property
lines and existing tree and/or beds-both existing & proposed.
Soil Evaporation and Plant transpiration information;
for example, locally gathered & analyzed E.T. DATA to define moisture
lost to the atmosphere.
Turf, ornamental trees, evergreen trees/shrubs and perennial/annual beds
all have different site/soil and water requirements. Also, there are different
growing requirements and water needs within the various plant categories,
and for the multitude of different species and cultivars. Conversely,
there are a multitude of irrigation component parts whose performance,
durability and cost effectiveness behave differently with the unique site/soil
conditions and water demands presented by your property.
Our plant specialists are college educated Foresters,
Horticulturists and Michigan Certified Nurserymen with in-depth plant
knowledge and experience. Also, most have been cross-trained as skilled
technicians by irrigation manufacturers and suppliers in system design,
component specification, and installation and maintenance procedures.
We think that the very best water management system can only be provided
by those who truly know hundreds of plants, and their specific site/soil
nutrient/water needs. They can then match these requirements with irrigation
hardware that delivers consistent, uniform, and accurate placement of
water.
At Skyhorse, our goal is to provide, one job at a time, a beautiful and
healthy landscape lasting for decades with irrigation systems operating
at peak efficiency.
